Right to Life Australia stands firmly opposed to Labor’s election promise to expand abortion nationally by linking hospital funding to abortion services reviewing Medicare rebates associated with abortions to increase access, establishing a new national telephone service to refer women directly to abortion clinics, and to push for the decriminalisation of abortion in NSW.
Right to Life Australia opposes the election of the federal Labor party who have proposed this life-threatening policy. Furthermore, we are appalled that, in announcing this commitment, abortion has been compared to procedures like broken bones and hip replacements by Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Tanya Plibersek.
This pledge is worth millions of dollars – money which would be better spent on providing genuine support to women facing crisis pregnancies, many of whom are quickly diverted to abortion services with no real choice being offered.
