TIGHE CALLS ON NAPTHINE

The President of The Right to Life Australia, called on Hon Premier Denis Napthine to back conscientious objection to abortion.  Margaret Tighe said today “For those who believe that killing babies in the womb – right up to birth- is a political plus, let me remind them that former Premier, John Brumby, lost office because of the abortion issue.”
Results of the 2010 Victorian Election.

I enclose information about our campaigns in selected electorates. We chose these electorates because the sitting member had voted for the Abortion Law Reform Act and the challenger was pro-life.  We letterboxed leaflets during the week before and the fortnight before the election.   We letterboxed  200 000 leaflets twice.  Also we placed advertisements in the local newspapers.
You will be aware that the average swing was 5.49%. The electorates we worked in, the percentage swing needed and achieved,  were:

Mount Waverley              Maxine Morand                               0.3                          7.8

Gippsland East                  Craig Ingram                            10.0                        21.1

Essendon                            Justin Madden                       16-17                     9.28

Burwood                             Bob Stensholt                        3.75                        9.6

Seymour                              Ben Hardman                         6.67                        7.9

Mitcham                              Tony Robinson                       1.9                          4.7

Mordialloc                           Janice Munt                          3.55                        5.6

Frankston                            Alistair Harkness                   3.23                        5.3

Bendigo East                      Jacinta Allan                           5.4                         -1.57

You may recall that on the night of the election Maxine Morand blamed her defeat on the Right to Life, and Craig Ingram blamed his defeat on the Right to Life and the Cattlemen.  When John Brumby saw the figures coming in he said that he still agreed with his Abortion Law Reform Act.

In an analysis in the Tasmanian Times, 30/11/10, Lyle Allan  concluded, “The pro-life movement can claim that without its support the Baillieu government would not have been elected.”
