Victorian suicide bill - Labor's shame

The President of Right to Life Australia, Margaret Tighe, said today was a tragic day for the people of Victoria and indeed for the people of Australia.

She said, "The Andrews Government has successfully passed through the Legislative Assembly a bill which will sanction doctor assisted suicide. Only 6 brave ALP MP's led by courageous deputy premier James Merlino stood against the bill and all it stands for."

Mrs Tighe continued, "The determination of many Liberal MP's led by Robert Clark, MP for Box Hill, to try to make the bill at least safer by moving necessary amendments was met by stubborn intransigence on the part of Health Minister Hennessy and Attorney General Pakula. They wanted none of it!"

Mrs Tighe concluded, "It is now up to the Legislative Council to consider carefully what harm they may be inflicting on the vulnerable in the community if they pass this bill."
